Sion Jo

Sion Jo started taking pictures after taking pretty flower pictures with his smartphone in Korea. Since then, Sion has started to take landscape pictures with his cell phone, and over time, Sion has learned to take pictures by using more professional cameras. His first camera was an Eos 5 from Canon and I started taking black and white photos with Kodak's Tmax film. After that, he focused on black and white photography and landscape photography and studied photography through repeated darkroom work and film development. Now he specializes in landscape photography, street photography, and documentary photography.

ACCD Photography and Imaging / 2019 ~ 2020, 2023~

Sion chose to study in the United States to major in photography and was accepted into the Department of Photography at ArtCenter College of Design in 2019 and has lived in the United States since September 2019. He will challenge more diverse genres of photography in the United States. Also, from this point on, he got Canon's new mirrorless camera, so he did a lot of digital work as well as film photography. At the same time as Corona explodes in 2020, he will decide to take a temporary leave of absence for internships and military service in Korea.

Internship

Sion worked as a photojournalist for an affiliate of a notable Korean media company in June 2020 to October 2020. He mostly worked as an assistant next to experienced photographers, but sometimes he would be the main to take pictures. His photo appeared in a total of three articles and was also published in a magazine published by the media.

2021 ~ 2022

Sion joined the training camp in May 2021 and joined the DMZ POLICE in late June to begin his military service in the Demilitarized Zone. Korea's demilitarized zone is famous for its most dangerous borders in the world. He confronted North Korean troops in the Demilitarized Zone every week, conducting search and reconnaissance operations and ambush operations day and night. During this period, Sion couldn't take many pictures because he was concentrating on his military service, but he occasionally took pictures of the streets when he was on vacation.
